New lifts for Copenhagen Central

Aarsleff Rail has installed respectively 6 and 3 lifts at Copenhagen Central and Østerport Station for the Copenhagen Metro. The lifts allow passengers to easily change between trains and metro at Copenhagen Central and Østerport Station once the new Metro-Cityring opens in 2018/19. The new lifts on Copenhagen Central  connects the platforms with the existing passenger tunnel, which will later be connected with a tunnel to the future metro station west of the central station. At Østerport Station the lifts connects the existing steel bridge with the platforms.

Extensive work

The project comprised a wide range of disciplines because of the lifts’ challenging locations. We established construction shafts with steel sheet piling, handled earth and concrete works, break down of old concrete structures to create a connection between lifts and passenger tunnel and an extensive handling of ground water. For several of the tasks we utilized specially adapted railway vehicles and for the installation of the lift towers we used our railway crane. We installed the lifts, paved the platform surroundings, made the necessary catenary changes and readied the lifts for service.

The ground water handling included refiltration of ground water to maintain an unchanged water level for the entire Central Station area and surroundings during the work.
